Opportunity to Grow
We had the privilege of hosting Rose Mattio, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mattio Communications, on the GOAT Factory Podcast. Rosie built her resume over the years in specialty food and restaurant PR before joining the cannabis industry. She was in the midst of pitching a six week project to The New York Times when a lightbulb went off – she realized her experience from the food and restaurant PR would tie into the emerging cannabis industry through a book called The Stoner’s Cookbook, now Herb. She managed 12 clients on her own after releasing this culinary cannabis collaboration and has since scaled into Mattio Communications with 35 employees.
Down to the Details
Each of our podcast guests starts off with the same question: what is innovation. Rosie provides ample insight into not only the cannabis industry but Mattio Communications processes and purpose in the cannabis industry.
Finding a whitespace is essential to innovating in cannabis media – even when the entire industry can be seen as a whitespace. Companies in the cannabis industry release the typical vape pens, tinctures, and bath bombs, but what separates one from the other? Rosie tells us how her initial spark of innovation rooted in the Stoner’s Cookbook and how implementing cannabis into recipes was an untapped idea. The whitespace brings light to the various uses for cannabis – at the time, people didn’t know uses past smoking it. Rosie tied these ideas together and turned this whitespace into a thoroughly established playing field for her brand.
Rosie hounds down on how she maintains day-to-day business. She promotes her love for connections and how she continues to delight her range of clients through building trust in the work they produce. Rosie’s passion for cannabis resides with each of her 35 employees at Mattio Communications – their single building block to producing amazing work.
Beyond the office, Rosie puts her pen and paper down and picks up a set of dumbbells. She has been training for a bodybuilding competition on her own, and has also been training for a triathlon with the rest of her 35 person team. In this case, the word “team” extends far beyond the office. One of the most important aspects of the Mattio Communications team dynamic is the cohesiveness between each member. Each has a burning passion for the cannabis industry – whether user or not – and also strives to better themselves both in and out of the office.
