Oat Foundry’s flagship product is Split Flap, a reimagined, modernized version of the classic departure boards found in train stations and airports. We also offer Picture Flap, an all-image version of Split Flap, and the newly launched Chroma Flap, an all-color version of Split Flap. We also offer a companion technology to make our Split Flaps interactive, called Algorithm.

What are the differences between screen displays and Oat Foundry’s Split Flaps?

Oat Foundry’s Split Flap displays are much more sustainable and visually interesting than standard video walls or screens. Here’s an overview:

What services does Oat Foundry offer?

Using our classic reimagined Split Flap displays, Oat Foundry creates custom analog signage (such as wayfinding signs, interactive menus, office message boards, and 3D portfolios) and kinetic wall installations (such as moving brand murals, office centerpieces, cultural landmarks, and donor walls).

Every display is built to order, matching the size, color, and customizations requested by clients, including architects, interior designers, and industry leaders. For an additional fee, Oat Foundry can install Split Flap displays in a range of installation styles.

How long has Oat Foundry been in business?

Oat Foundry opened in 2013 and has been innovating with Split Flap and analog technology since. Inspired by the history of analog signage and the iconic departure boards found in train stations, our engineers created a modern version that uses the same kinetic motion and subtle sound to bring movement and energy into otherwise static spaces.

Picture Flap, an image-based version of Split Flap, quickly joined the product roster in 2019. The companion technology to our products, Algorithm, was added in 2025. Chroma Flap, an all-color version of Split Flap, launched in early 2026.

What is a Split Flap?

A Split Flap is a mechanical display that uses kinetic energy to rotate flaps with alphanumeric characters to display messages.

An Oat Foundry Split Flap display uses the same classic technology to display messages, and is updated on the backend through our web-based app Portal, accessible from phone, tablet, or laptop.

How much do Split Flaps cost?

Oat Foundry Split Flap displays start at about $15k for a board in our Classic Black finish, and scale up based on size. The style of our displays (legible from 100 ft away) and the quality (built by hand to last for decades) are the primary factors in the price. Pricing will fluctuate based on sizing and further customizations.

What is a Picture Flap?

Imagine a Split Flap, but with pictures. Similar to a puzzle, every rotation of a Picture Flap shows a different piece of a larger picture. Ultimately, every piece flips into place to show a full image. With multiple images on every display, Picture Flap is a stunning, non-stop visual display perfect for logos, product photography, brand values, and more.

How much do Chroma Flaps cost?

Designed as a bespoke installation for enterprise brands, architects, and interior designers, the site-specific all-color Chroma Flap starts at 160k.
