Barstool Sports is known to many – between their 100+ million followers – but if you’re not familiar, the company was founded by Dave Portnoy back in 2003 when newspapers were still king. They have since developed into a multi-million dollar digital media company entertaining several generations through sports and pop culture – and are now opening physical bars to complement their sportsbook app. Stanton & Bowery Hospitality took the reins on designing and operating the new Barstool bars with Philadelphia being the second location to open its doors. Thanks to the renowned hospitality group, the energy of Barstool Sports is evermore present throughout the space.

Barstool Sansom Street is located right in Center City Philadelphia surrounded by a handful of other go-to nightlife spots and just blocks from City Hall. Their modest front door entrance opens into a massive two-floor oasis for those looking to indulge in great food and drinks, sports betting, and “good vibes only” – as seen on the walls throughout the location. The bar has Philly pub-style qualities with exposed brick, wood floors, leather seating, and lots and lots of taps to keep the rounds flowing for their guests. There’s not a bad seat in the house as a minimum of two or three televisions are viewable from every seat around the location – a haven for sports fanatics and bettors.

Although the walls are lined with LED TV screens, the bar needed something that can act as a retro focal point – a Split Flap was the perfect fit. Stanton & Bowery ordered a 5 Row x 32 Column board that acts as the main attraction behind the bar – breaking up the bright lights from the row of televisions. The Split Flap displays everything from game times, tweets from the many social figures throughout the Barstool organization, specials and happy hour info, quotes about Philly, and more. Adding this subtle design element keeps a constant flowing queue of content – something Barstool holds the trophy for across all social platforms. Their Split Flap wouldn’t have been complete without a custom logo flap as seen below. The display is one of our most recognizable signs in just months after opening the door because of Barstool’s massive social media presence and the demographic that visits the new bar. We’re excited to partner with Stanton & Bowery and Barstool to bring their vision to life!
