Airport Message Board

Oat Foundry’s airport message board (Split Flap) is a modern mechanical marvel. Serving as a key focal point for brands, our airport message boards are used as functional, yet stylish signature displays in airports and transit halls.

Modern airport message boards, inspired by the classic Solari signs.

Let’s take a jump back to the 1950s. During the exciting early age of travel, mechanical airport message boards, aka Solari displays, would transition through departures, creating a cascading flow of information. But these large boards weren’t just transit signage; they created mechanical, dimensional motion that passengers just couldn’t ignore.

Today, Solari no longer creates these mechanical boards. As the closest to the classic Solari on the market today, our airport message boards (Split Flaps) are known for scale, size, and long-distance legibility.

With signage, size matters. What makes Oat Foundry’s modernized airport message boards the perfect fit is the larger text and module scale that far exceed fixed-size alternatives. Our displays have an ADA-compliant font and text size of 2.5 inches, framed in a 6-inch module (similarly sized to the classic Solari boards).
